Often we are asked, “as a GemFM member what are the benefits an individual will receive?”
Before we answer that question we need to explain what it means to have you as a member.
The Bowen Community Broadcasting Assoc. Inc is a non-profit community service operated by volunteers. Having you as a member allows us to maintain the community owned operation in the local area. The small fee as a member helps in every way to pay for the continual running cost of the broadcast service, from community licensing to upgrading and servicing equipment and occasionally we can afford milk and coffee at the studio
Having access to a strong membership also provides the committee with the direction and feedback required from the community to ensure the broadcast service stays a community benefit service and is always in line with the current community needs.
We encourage all participation and invite all community members to find out what is we do and how we achieve this, starting with the website.
The benefits we receive for your membership

So what are the benefits you will receive?
Some benefits may be obvious, which include listening to your favorite music, locally created programming including local news, events and current affairs, interviews, press and media releases and your daily horoscope are just some of the content we broadcast.
But the other benefits may not be so obvious, and is up to you how you tap into the Australian Community Broadcasting Sector through your local Community broadcaster.
Locally you will be able to directly provide feedback by attending not only our meetings but have your say at the AGM. You may wish to volunteer your time and help maintain the service, or what about air your own show or support and existing program? by volunteering your time you will quickly understanding how the community broadcasting sector in general operates.
What about learning and practicing new skills.
The sector is now complemented and supported by the Multimedia industry. Are you interested in Journalism, presenting, management, broadcast, studio, sound and related technologies what about web, communications, and public relations. It really doesn’t matter what industry you may wish to enter. There is a chance that the Australian Community Broadcasting sector may provide for the basic platform to home your skills and possibly the platform to launch your carer in the related sectors.
Oh yeah! If you just can’t stand that song being aired……We will even let you tell us!
